SANKRATHI FESTIVAL

 SANKRANTHI J.Naga Jahnavi Sankranthi is a festival celebrated for 3, 4 or 5 days in some places. On the first day we celebrate bhogi with a bonfire, second day is Sankranthi and on the third day we celebrate kanuma. Makara Sankranti, or Maghi , is a festival day in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to the deity Surya (sun).   It is observed each year in January. It marks the first day of the sun's transit into the Makara ( Capricorn ), marking the end of the month with the winter solstice and the start of longer days. It is one of the festival which is celebrated all over India. The festivities associated with Makar Sankranti are known by various names MAGH BIHU  in Assam , MAGHI  in Punjab ,  Maghi Saaji  in Himachal Pradesh ,  Maghi Sangrand  or  Uttarain  (Uttarayana) in Jammu,   Sakraat  in Haryana,   Sukarat  in central India, PONGAL in Tamil Nadu , Uttarayan in Gujarat , and Uttar Pradesh, Ghughuti in Uttarakhand, Makara Sankranti in Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Go
